Bruce Russell

ブルース・ラッセルはニュージーランド出身の即興サウンド・アーティストで、1987年からThe Dead Cのメンバーである。The Wire誌はThe Dead Cが「現代の国際的なアンダーグラウンド・ ミュージックに計り知れない影響を与えた」と評した(2013年7月)。彼はソロアーティストとしても 活動しており、A Handful of Dustではアラステア・ガルブレイスと共演している。

Bruce Russell is an improvising sound artist from New Zealand, who since 1987 has been a member of the Dead C. The Wire (July, 2013) described the Dead C. as having had “an incalculable influence on contemporary international underground music”. He has also been active as a solo artist, and alongside Alastair Galbraith in A Handful of Dust. Bruce has also directed two independent labels, Xpressway and Corpus Hermeticum; and written essays and criticism for The Wire, Bulltongue Review, artists’ catalogues, and other publications. In 2010 he published Left-handed blows: writing on sound 1993-2009 (Auckland: Clouds), and is currently writing a book about the death of rock’n’roll and the poetics of sound.

Russell has released music on multiple labels, including Xpressway and Corpus Hermeticum, and has collaborated with a range of international artists such as Tetuzi Akiyama (Japan), Ralf Wehowsky (Germany), Omit (New Zealand), and Mattin (Spain). His works have also appeared on labels like Chocolate Monk (UK), Siltbreeze (US), Grapefruit Records (US), VHF (US), Jagjaguwar (US), Feeding Tube (US), Freedom From (US), Azul Discográfica (Spain), and Glass Redux (UK).

S•グラスによって作成された電気音響サウンド コラージュは、数多くの実践(挑戦)によって成る。 具体的には彼はテープ音楽、電子処理、音声、ファウンドサウンド、非音楽的オブジェクト、チャン スオペレーションを組み合わせている。セット中にはセルフショットのビデオが上映されるが、その ほとんどはゆっくりと同期がずれてぐらつく複数のレイヤーで作られたテクスチャ、ジャンプカット、 そしていくつかの原始的なアニメーションである。全体的な効果は、超現実的な方向感覚の喪失 をテーマにしている。グラスは、Bren’t Lewiis Ensemble (80年代初頭の大規模なグループ)と Glands of External Secretion (90年代初頭のバーバラ・マニングとのデュオ) の創設者。 80年代 後半から 2004 年まで、彼はBananafish雑誌の主要な推進者でした。 2017年よりソロアーティス トとして活動。

Numerous practices make up the electro-acoustic sound collages created by S•Glass. He combines tape music, electronic processing, voice, found sound, non-musical objects, and chance operations. Self-shot video is screened during sets, which is mostly textures made with multiple layers that slowly wobble out of sync, jump cuts, and a smattering of primitive animation. The overall effect is one of surreal disorientation. Glass is a founder of Bren’t Lewiis Ensemble (a large non-musical music group begun in the early 1980s), and Glands of External Secretion (a duo with rock musician Barbara Manning since the early ’90s). From the late ’80s until 2004, he was the main driver behind Bananafish. Since 2017, he’s  performed as a solo artist.

He’s released music and sound on his label Butte County Free Music Society, and has also collaborated with an international array of others such as Dylan Nyoukis (Scotland), Anla Courtis of Reynols (Argentina), Noel Meek (New Zealand), Bryan Day (US), Andrew Zukerman (Canada), Cody Brant (US), and Orchid Spangiafora (US). 灰野敬二 I Keiji Haino

1952年5月3日千葉県生まれ。アントナン・アルトーに触発され演劇を志すが、ザ・ドアーズに遭遇し音楽に転向。ブラインド・レモン・ジェファーソンをはじめとする初期ブルースのほか、ヨーロッパ中世音楽から内外の歌謡曲まで幅広い音楽を検証し吸収。1970年、エドガー・アラン・ポーの詩から名を取ったグループ「ロスト・アラーフ」にヴォーカリストとして加入。また、ソロで自宅録音による音源制作を開始、ギター、パーカッションを独習する。1978年にロックバンド「不失者」を結成。1983年から87年にかけて療養のため活動休止。1988年に復帰して以来、ソロのほか不失者、滲有無、哀秘謡、Vajra、サンヘドリン、静寂、なぞらない、The Hardy Rocksなどのグループ、experimental mixture名義でのDJ、他ジャンルとのコラボレーションなど多様な形態で国際的に活動を展開。ギター、パーカッション、ハーディ・ガーディ、各種管弦楽器、各地の民間楽器、DJ機器などの性能を独自の演奏技術で極限まで引き出しパフォーマンスを行なう。200点を超える音源を発表し、確認されただけでも1,800回以上のライブ・パフォーマンスを行なっている。
