John Wiese

ジョン・ウィーゼはロサンゼルス出身のアーティスト兼作曲家で、サウンド、コラージュ、デザイン、インスタレーション、映画など、多岐にわたる分野横断的な作品で知られています。
ジョン・ウィーゼとメルツバウは、25年にわたるライブパフォーマンスやメール・コラボレーションの歴史を誇ります。
『Akashaplexia』は、メルツバウとジョン・ウィーゼによる初のフルレングスのスタジオ・コラボレーション作品で、2024年12月に東京でレコーディングされました。近年の両アーティストによるリリースの中でも、最も緻密な作品の一つと言えるでしょう。

John Wiese is an artist and composer from Los Angeles known for his
diverse interdisciplinary practice in sound, collage, design,installation, and film.
Jon Wiese and Merzbow have a 25-year history of collaborating through live performances and mails.The recently released four-CD set, Akashaplexia, is Merzbow and Jon Wiese’s first full-length studio collaboration, recorded in a Tokyo studio in December 2024. It is one of the most intricate releases by either artist in recent memory.

秋田昌美による東京のヴィーガン・ストレートエッジ・ノイズ・プロジェクト。1980年代初頭のノイズ・インダストリアル・シーンを皮切りに、音楽活動を開始。1990年代にはグラインドコアの影響を受け、デスメタル・レーベルRelapseよりアルバムをリリース。1990年代後半には、Megoの「パンク・コンピュータ・ミュージック」に共鳴し、いち早くラップトップ・コンピューターを用いたライブ・パフォーマンス手法を取り入れた。近年はアナログ、デジタルにとらわれない手法を用いている。

2003年頃からヴィーガン活動を実践。アニマルライツをコンセプトにした作品も数多く制作している。近年はAI アートを作品に導入している。

A vegan, straight edge noise project of Masami Akita from Tokyo. Merzbow started out in the noise industrial scene of early 1980s and began releasing music. In the 1990s, Merzbow were influenced by grind core and released an album on the death metal label Relapse. In the late 1990s, he resonated with Mego’s “punk computer music” and were one of the first in Japanese Noise Scene to adopt a live performance technique using laptop computers.

Since around 2003, he has practiced veganism from the perspective of “animal rights.” He creates works on themes such as “anti-whaling,” “anti-dolphin fishing,” “anti-fur,” and “liberation of livestock animals.” In recent years, he has been creating music that is not limited to digital or analog. Recently, he has been experimenting with incorporating AI into album artwork.
